Interelation of immigration and illegal employment in Germany

The article makes an attempt to study the correlation between immigration and unreported employment in modern Germany. Based on the latest data the history of immigration to Germany is traced. Due to the multiple growth of the North African, the Middle Eastern and the South Asian immigrants' flow to the EU and in particular Germany in fall 2015 witnessed the greatest migration crisis since the Second World War. According to the German Federal Office of Statistics Syria was rank first among the migrants' origin states. So, for example the number of people with Syrian citizenship on the German soil had risen more than ten times. The situation when in some towns native Germans are no longer a majority fuels xenophobic sentiment. This in turn is used by political powers for gaining popularity. For example, Alternative fur Deutschland, political party with strong anti-migrant rhetoric moved into third place in 2017 Parliament Elections. Fears associated with foreigners existing in Germany are mainly baseless and can be considered as stereotypes. One of such fears is the notion of migrants being the core of the twilight economy and tend to unreported employment. Existing methods of the twilight economy estimation allow us to talk about gradual decline of its take to the country's GDP since 2010. Unreported employment has the greatest share of the twilight economy. Article represents gender, age and professional characteristics of illegally employed third countries' migrants. The conclusion that illegal activities are mainly connected not with goods production but services can also be drawn. Economic sectors deeper intervened with unreported employment are: building, restaurant and hotel business, passenger traffic, transportation and logistics, entertainment, timber industry, cleaning services, exhibition activities, meat industry, etc. The research focuses on the discussion over the shadow economy and unreported employment effective countermeasures. All parties represented in Bundestag share the position of the Federal Government on social harm of illegal activities, the disagreement on ways and methods of its deterrent exist though. Labor pool inflow has the potential to boost the labor offer. However, we can state that expanding labor offer through the refugees is not the reason behind the growth of the shadow economy. Moreover, we can note that the share of the twilight economy in regard to the country's GDP shrinks even considering the migration. The greater part in the unreported employment deterrence plays constantly improving legal base, responsible authorities' activities and prevention control.
