Western Slavs" in A Writer's Diary by F.M. Dostoevsky in the time of the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878
The article raises the question of "Western Slavs" in "A Writer's Diary" (1877) by F.M. Dostoevsky. The Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878 is perceived by the writer primarily as a war against Europe, and the "Eastern Question" is defined as a much more meaningful and relevant "Slavic Question". The author analyses a number of episodes from "A Writer's diary" where F.M. Dostoevsky emphasises the internal strife between the Slavs, citing "The Songs of the Western Slavs" by A.S. Pushkin. The author of the article draws attention to Pushkin's poem "He lived among us . . .", dedicated to A. Mickiewicz and explains the connection of the theme discussed with F.M. Dostoevsky's historiosophical concept of Russia's unifying role in the Eastern Christian world. She also raises of whether it is possible to apply the postcolonial methodologies to the study of the writer's work.
