The influence of current media design trends on the appearance and design of modern Russian magazines

The article analyzes the degree of influence of modern media design trends on the design style of Russian magazines. A close and obvious connection between the principles of stylistic design of Soviet-era printed materials and modern media design has been traced for a very long time and has been repeatedly not- ed by researchers studying this field. With the transition to digital platforms, the emergence of online publications (or online versions of printed publications), this trend has not gone away - it is firmly intertwined with modern media design. The research material was taken from the Soviet thick magazine Yunost' - a monthly literary and artistic publication for young people, which still exists; and modern publications - the magazine Rules of Life (a project of the Esquire team) and the project Snob - a Russian media, which also functions in print and electronic form. After studying the opinions of the leading producers of visual content given in the material of the Journalist edition, I identified the main directions of the prospects of media design, on the basis of which I analyzed the applied materials. In my opinion, the reasons for the borrowing of Soviet media design traditions by modern magazines are: interest in the past, “playing” on the prevailing mental attitudes of the audience, implementation of the trend towards functionality and minimalism, formation of the reader's desired belonging to a certain stratum of society through a circle of interests. The materials reviewed suggest that the hypothesis about the significant and obvious influence of Soviet graphic design traditions on modern domestic media design is correct; moreover, in the current socio-political situation, this phenomenon is becoming even more relevant and, obviously, will only strengthen and grow, so this direction seems very interesting and promising for study.
