Conceptual metaphor in natural-science term formation

The present study presented is focused on the analysis of the anthropomorphous metaphor in literary discourse. The overall goal is to demonstrate howthe conceptual mapping between two distinct concept domains MAN and NATURE participating in discourse may give rise to either conventional or unconventional metaphors.The paper provides evidence that the novel uses of the conventional conceptual metaphorNATURE IS MANin Shukshin short storiesderive due to the modes of metaphorical creativity, namely the extension and elaboration. It is emphasized that the cognitive processes of the anthropomorphous metaphor production and comprehension are bound to the crucial role of context.
