The Influence of a Situational Context on the Adequateness of Authentic Speech Comprehension in Foreign Language Discourse Teaching

The paper deals with the problem of a situational context influence on the perception of authentic lexical units in foreign language discourse teaching. In this case the success of communication directly depends on the knowledge of situation-bound utterances, which act inside a definite context determined by a situation od communication. The study is focused on assisting students in developing their ability to communicate with native speakers without any communicative constrains that can lead to misunderstanding and communicative failures. The experimental teaching has been carried out in which the tasks are based on the formulaic continuum designed by I. Kecskes. The increase in the adequateness of SBU perception while using different strategies of comprehension based on compositionality of a lexical unit, its closeness to the analogues in native culture, and on a situational context in which it acts, has been shown. The results of this study are used in preparation of didactic materials for foreign language communication teaching of non-linguistic students.
