Ethos as a part of corporate culture (case study of educational institutions of Great Britain)
This article presents an analysis of ethos as part of the corporate culture. We use such methods as content analysis, hermeneutic and linguocultural analyses. Ethos in the broadest sense may be defined as a way of life, cultural orientation, accepted hierarchy of values, in the narrow sense it is a moral philosophy distilled from the history of an organization (institution), from the stories and legends, images and symbols, customs and rituals, etc. circulating in it and about it. The ethos is reflected in the life, attitude and behavior of the subjects of an organization (institution), as well as in their communication. Ethos in the narrow sense is considered by us as part of the conceptual component of the corporate culture. It includes such features as spirituality, conservatism, self-containment. We made a selective content analysis of memoirs, biographies and journalistic literature, which refer to and somehow assess the realities of educational institutions of the UK. Thereafter we considered the state of educational institutions ethos in relation to the international reform of education. The conclusion is that the accumulation, refinement of community's ethos and its transmission to future generations may help to maintain and further the functioning of this community. Stories, lectures, reference to elements of ethos in everyday communication, visual and visual-effective demonstrations of its vehicles, etc. - all of these contribute to the continuity of generations, create a sense of belonging, spiritual braces. With this foundation, students will accept innovation and modernization activities aimed at improving efficiency more consciously and responsibly.
