Methods of teaching international relations students writing skills using peer review

Peer review is a problem-solving method based on mutual learning and correcting learners' written texts for the purpose of their further development. The paper is devoted to the use of peer review in teaching writing skills to students majoring in International Relations. In the paper the authors a) clarify the content of teaching writing skills to students majoring in International Relations; b) set out a number of language education functions of peer review in teaching writing skills to students; c) develop stages of organization for project activities aimed at developing writing skills on the basis of peer review. As a result, the following steps in peer review are suggested: 1) familiarizing students with the structure of written work; 2) discussing with the students the educational value of peer review in the mastery of their writing skills; 3) studying examples of phrases and expressions used in reviewing (commenting on) written papers; 4) familiarizing students with examples of reviews of some written papers; 5) a sample group task with an anonymous review of a written paper, followed by analysis and discussion (front work); 6) selecting an Internet-based platform for the project registering on the platform, and explaining the technological side of the peer review project; 7) discussing with students the criteria for assessment of their participation in the peer review project; 8) preparing for the writing and the writing itself; 9) posting written reviews on the Internet platform; 10) reviewing papers posted on the Internet platform; 11) analyzing reviews and comments, and making the necessary changes to the written papers; 12) uploading a modified version of a written paper; 13) assessment of the written papers by the teacher; 14) student reflection.
