Characteristics of structural-grammatical models of the English phraseological units with the give component
The questions at issue of its essence and, first of all, the nature of the structural organization of language as a special type of semiotics system are connected with a problem of significance of a natural language. The problem of studying the structure of phraseological unit as language sign is one of pressing problems of modern phraseology. The importance of studying the structure of a language sign is constantly emphasized with linguists. The need of detailed studying the structure of phraseological units is dictated by two reasons: first, one of the problems of modern comparative linguistics is the problem of a compression of language structure, i.e. such folding which gives the chance to extremely economicallycode information on this structure. Secondly, the modern analysis of phraseology is impossible without taking into consideration patterning of structure in phraseological units. As the object of our research we select two hundred phraseological units with the give-component available in Big English-Russian phraseological dictionary by A.V. Kunin and eighty phraseological units with the give-component are recorded in the dictionary A.P. Cowie. This verb is one of the most frequent verbs of the kinetic semantics in modern English, around which was formed a significant number of phraseological units. In the study of structural-grammatical models of the English FE we proceed from the interpretation issues of phraseological modeling proposed by A.V. Kunin, and also take into account the basic provisions of the theory phraseological formation models. The research allows to draw a conclusion that the most frequent among verbal phraseological units of modern English with the leading give-component are three-component and two-component structures, of which constant-variable and constant-alternative-variable dependence of components is characteristic, and that testifies to average degree of stability of the studied segment of modern English phraseology. All these models are distinguished by a general characteristic in structure, namely: the verbal and object relations, the majority of which are mediated by an alternant. Development of alternativeness and polysemanticism of the studied verbal phraseological unit is directly connected with their communicative-pragmatic potential.
