Evaluation of the effectiveness of EFL instruction throughout the English language program to provide conditions for internationalization of the university: experience of an innovative technical university

The present study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between internationalization of universities and a good English language command of its actors. Thus, students’ mobility can be realized only by those individuals who communicate in English at a high level. Therefore, there is a great demand in obtaining urgent and objective information with regard to the English language potential of the whole students’ population. The results of standardized testing employed at a tertiary level demonstrated its efficacy. The findings indicated that there were significant differences in participants’ performance on the three test forms, making it possible to track their language development longitudinally. For the first time testing results were used to improve teaching and learning process at the university. The results were used as a policy tool in introducing meaningful curricular adjustments at a university level in order to modernize the current system of English language teaching at the university.
