Foreign informative reading and studying the semantic content of selected text fragments to make a report on a problem-based question
The article deals with the problem of teaching technical university students complete understanding of foreign texts and text fragments semantic content with the help of informative reading and its steps: reproductive writing of theme and rheme unities as the smallest informative units; productive writing of short simple sentences and long complicated sentences. The steps of the informative reading, cognitive activity, and mental operations help students to make logical structures of the functional types of speech: reasoning, description, narration. The questions described in the article are actual as the way of teaching future engineers effective and productive work with information while solving problems in different spheres: education, research, profession are demonstrated. It's noted that collaboration in the process of information and experience exchange is a must for specialists nowadays. Solving problem-based and profession-oriented questions stimulates cognitive activity, thinking, reflection and leads to professional and language awareness, language means studying. The article offers some steps of informative reading which illustrate the functions of the reading: its focus on goal-tasks and goal-outcomes (such as reports), that leads to the orderly semantic content complete understanding.
