Greek Archaic Poetry in the translations of M.N. Muravyov (Sappho's 2nd Ode)

The article examines the receptions of Sappho's poetry in the original work of M.N. Muravyov and the poetry of the translation of Sappho's second ode Фa^vsтa^ ^oi Kqvo? iao? 0soiai "Happy, who near you smoulders with you alone" in the light of the traditions of classicism and the new tendencies of sentimentalism. The semantic, stylistic, rhythmic-metric parameters of translation are analyzed, its artistic originality is revealed. The article uses philological methods of text interpretation with the involvement of historical-philosophical and literary-aesthetic contexts with the help of comparative and correlative analysis. Sappho's poetry vividly represents the Greek monoid meliq, widely spread in the 6th century BC. on Lesbos island. M.N. Muravyov highly valued Sappho, along with such great Greeks as Homer, Aeschylus, Euripides. In his early works, having paid tribute to classicists, the poet began to pave the way for sentimentalism in the 1970s, thus, the appeal to Sappho's poetry is of particular interest for understanding his work and the place of M.N. Muravyov in Russian literature. The translation shows an attentive attitude to the semantic, compositional and emotional levels of the original. M.N. Muravyov consistently depicts all the stages of physical torment of Sappho's heroine by using figural means and methods equivalent to the original source. The influence of classicism affects only the lexical level, which is manifested in the active use of Old Slavic words, and the choice of material for translation, the translation style of M.N. Muravyov (following the primary source on the semantic, compositional and artistic levels), different from the samples of the classic translation, allowing a free treatment of the source text, bespeaks the innovativeness of the poet of the 18th century standing on the positions of shaping sentimentalism.
