About the problem of word-formation synonymy in the Old Germanic languages
The article summarizes data on the prevalence of the same-root (paronymous) word-formation and propositional synonyms as well as their paradigmatic oppositions amongst nouns in Gothic, Old High German and Old Icelandic. The most productive types of paradigmatic oppositions of synonyms as well as of their word-formation affixes are established. Some common trends in the field of word-formation synonymy are revealed.
