Information-centered analysis and identification of denotations as a means of conceptualization and comprehension of the source text information in full translation
The study deals with the problem of identifying denotations as a way of understanding the source text information in full translation. The authors reveal the aspects of translator's informative reading of the source text, thinking operations, understanding its fragments, disclosing the structure of the speech-activity unit in full translation, determining its complexity, multifaceted and bilingual nature. The authors also describe in detail the characteristics of a semantic verbal solution as the first component of the speech-activity unit of translation in identifying semantic units-denotations, along with their correlation as units of speech with units of language and thinking in the speech-thinking process in situations of translator's informative reading. Revealed also is the process of analyzing, identifying, conceptualizing and formulating denotation phrases of the source text in the speech-thinking process at the pre-translation stage. The mental activity is characterized in detail and examples are given of successive semantic solutions regarding the identified and formed free denotation phrases; the associative relationships of words grouped in the denotation phrase, that represent extralinguistic reality are described; the importance of a key word in each denotation, performing a semantic function, and repeated key words in all revealed denotation text fragments is shown. An important issue in the article is the structure of the semantic content of the source text in the form of a vertical row of denotations in the source language and the target language as a mandatory basis for producing the secondary text by a translator using the means of the target language.
