The problems of medical translation and the ways of overcoming difficulties in non-linguistic universities
The paper describes the main features and peculiarities on grammatical, syntactic and lexical levels in translation of scientific and technical texts. The main functions of translation and criteria for its quality are determined from the point of view of communication theory. The authors form the main standards for a good-quality translation. As the title implies the article describes the main difficulties in translating medical terms, texts into Russian and possible ways of overcoming them in non-linguistic universities. The author starts with the statement of the problem and then logically passes over to its possible solutions. The paper analyzes the particularity of medical translation, trying to distinguish between general translation problems typical for any language combinations and language specific ones. The article is concerned with the origin of problems. This study is based one examples of the English and Russian languages. The article is devoted to specialization specifics of foreign language training at a medical school. Special texts are of great importance for specialization of foreign languages training. Reading the scientific foreign-language text is a stable motivation increase factor of learning foreign language, therefore in vocational training of modern medical specialist much attention should be paid to professional translation training. The paper is noted the requirements for the use of medical terms and medical vocabulary, including terms used in scientific medicine of other sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Radiology, Genetics, Anthropology, Psychology, Cybernetics, and others.) that includes hundred thousands of words and phrases. This article also discusses the lexico-grammatical features of the translation of medical texts; emphasizes teaching professionally oriented medical translation. The article is concerned with the specific features and difficulties of medical translation of handwritten documents / gives the features of the special medical texts translation. Knowledge of special vocabulary, terminology and abbreviations promotes accuracy and clarity of text transcription into the target language. An experienced translator is sure to properly understand and translate unrelated semantic groups of words that make up the idea of separate segment information in order to do accurate and complete translation of scientific texts or documentation. Competent translation of such specific lexis collocations is also provided by the use of specialized dictionaries, reference books as well as adequate language equivalents used in the target language. In his work the author showed the translation of words similar in pronunciation and spelling (false friends or misleading words) - as exemplified in medical terminology. In the paper the author demonstrates the opportunity of additional linguistic Interpreter in Professional Communication in Sechenov University. The education program is focused on training of highly qualified specialists in the field of intercultural professional communication and medical translation. In conclusion the paper points out that the author emphasizes the modern requirements imposed to experts of various areas of knowledge assume profound knowledge of terminology of future specialty. It is particularly true in medicine. Besides, this knowledge helps to acquire special literature and to develop professional erudition more deeply. The present article may be of interest to medical students, practicing translators and professionals.
