To the question of categorization of the terminology of emergency situations (on the basis of English terminology)
The article deals with the analysis of emergency situations terminology as a complex terminological system based on the representation of linguistic categories. This vocabulary can be referred to the newest terminologies that appeared at the bound of the 20th - 21st centuries. Its appearance was influenced by various socio-linguistic factors. The first of them is the complexity and diversity of geographical landscape, the second is the high level of industrial development of the states, and the third is the need for emergency response with various civil protection forces and means. By now this institution has worked out its own language of description and its own terminology fixed in glossaries and dictionaries. The author highlights four aspects of the vocabulary of emergency situations: its specificity in terms of disciplinary categorization; the question of the origin of special language units; terms of emergency situations from the standpoint of systemic relations in the language; features of the form of special signs. Categorization of emergency situations terminology is based on disciplinary categories that reflect a special «network», a special worldview through the lens of abnormality, crisis, extraordinary event. Emergency situations vocabulary is formed mainly on the base of literary language units or borrowed terms that gain specific gender differences and narrow their semantics to the frame of this particular professional field. Emergency situations vocabulary is represented by forming its nucleus key terms as well as by peripheral linguistic units. Regarding the sources of emergency situations vocabulary, a corpus of national terminology and terms of Greek and Latin origin should be mentioned. Taking into account the complexity of syntactic structure of most terms concerning the form, we can emphasize the importance of abbreviation in representation of emergency situations lexical units. From a systemic standpoint, these terms are in different linguistic relations of polysemy and variation.
