Scientific and technical translation training of non-linguistic university students in electronic learning environment

Current concepts and methods of teaching students scientific and technical translation in an electronic learning environment (Moodle) is highly relevant. The methods of scientific and technical translation teaching in the electronic environment, presented in this article, allow organizing and individualizing learning activities of students, in accordance with their future professional activity. They also allow forming and developing students self-education skills, which are especially important in connection with the transition to a three-level education system, the reduction of classroom work and the increase of students independent work. Professionally oriented teaching of scientific and technical translation in an electronic environment is a modular integrated approach, which involves both teaching how to work with the terminology of the field of activity in which the trainee will be busy after graduation. It improves the basics of reading and writing scientific articles, drawing up reports and presentations in a foreign language, teaches independent research in the framework of a future profession. The method of scientific and technical translation teaching in an electronic environment is based on a combination of cognitive, interactive and communicative teaching methods. The purpose of this type of training is the formation of the personality of a future specialist ready for professional activity, possessing necessary communication skills in his native and foreign language, capable to self-development and self-learning. Translation training in an electronic environment consists of four stages. The first stage is implemented by means of the basic (1) module, where students form a basic thesaurus through learning how to translate grammar structures and terminology. The second (2) stage of training is carried out in the general engineering module, where general engineering topics are thought; reading of scientific and technical texts in the electronic system is carried out, when students have already mastered the basic grammatical and lexical structures of scientific and technical style. At the third (3) stage, each student starts integration in his/her individual research material: expands and systematizes the individual glossary and at the same time learns to work with modern means of electronic translation. At the fourth (4) stage, students themselves select texts for translation in a foreign language and write their articles, annotations for qualification papers / theses, prepare reports and presentations for speaking at scientific conferences. When teaching students in an electronic environment, one should pay attention to the material presentation sequence in modules, which are constructed on the principles of informative continuity and linguistic development, on the specifics of students future professional activity, on learning how to work with terminology, on connection of educational material with real situations in industry, on reading skills and understanding of technical literature for further profession.
