Composite Verbal and Non-verbal Method for Identifying the Genre of Song and Poetic Texts

This article is devoted to the study of the relationship of textual and musical components of song-poetic texts and confirmation of the effectiveness of the composite method for identifying their genre. The authors of the article define song and poetic text as a creolized text of mixed type with two components. The article presents language and non-language markers of the lyrics of the basic musical genres, which are identified by both authors and participants of the experimental study. By language markers, the authors understand the most common lexical, stylistic, grammatical means. Among the musical characteristics the authors enumerate melody, tempo and rhythm. The experimental study presented in the article confirms the hypothesis about the relationship of musical and textual characteristics in different genres of British and American songs. The authors analyze the results of an experiment conducted on the basis of song and poetical texts of the genres "jazz, rap, rock, pop." The first stage of the experiment describes the algorithm of the work of the recipients with the text component of the song-poetic text and the identification of its genre based on language means. The second stage of the experiment consists in listening to the song, determining its musical characteristics and then the genre of the song and poetic text. In the process of analysis, the authors compare the results of the first and second stages of the experiment. The authors focus on creating optimal conditions for the experiment. The article also presents the criterion characteristics of the readiness of recipients to determine the linguistic and musical characteristics of texts of different genres, ranging from a zero level, insufficient to confirm the results of experimental research, and ending with the optimal level. The criterion characteristics of the readiness of the recipients confirm the reliability of the results and, accordingly, the effectiveness of the composite method for identifying their genre of the song and poetic text.
