Professional Intercultural Communication with Accent
Some results of rethinking of the professional intercultural communication problems based on the author's participation in the Second World Congress on Intercultural Communication East-West: a crossroads of cultures are described. The concept of "professional intercultural communication with an emphasis" is introduced and argued. This term means an intercultural dialogue between professionally trained representatives of different languages and cultures, for one of which the language of intercultural dialogue is native, and for the other one it is a foreign language, mastered by him at a professional level in a linguistic educational institution profile. In this work, the emphasis is considered as non-native inter-cultural communication partner's pronunciation flaws, in which the intercultural dialogue is carried out, its individual cultural and personality-related features of speech behavior that differ from the native speaker's speech strategies. Differences in the perception of emphasis by the native and non-native intercultural communication speakers were revealed. The inter-cultural dialogue participant who has mastered a foreign language at a university wants to communicate as a native speaker, while his perfect command of the intercultural dialogue language annoys his intercultural dialogue participant who is a native speaker because of psychological discomfort. Native intercultural communication participants are for their non-native partners' emphasis. In order to differentiate professional intercultural communication more clearly and reasonably, some types of unprofessional intercultural communication are presented as its antipodes, in particular, occasional tourist types of intercultural communication. The article discusses indicators of the effectiveness of professional intercultural communication with an emphasis, including: reaching consensus on the results of intercultural dialogue; removing barriers to intercultural communication, including: overcoming the intolerant behavior of participants in intercultural communication; the study and comprehension of contacted cultures; implementation of the available reserves for increasing the effectiveness of intercultural communication, including: the creation of temporary research teams to objectively study the interaction of cultures; partners' desire to achieve mutual understanding. Examples illustrating the effectiveness of intercultural communication with an emphasis and the opposite are given. The author gives reasons for need to innovate intercultural communication with an emphasis, a paradigm shift in the study of problems of intercultural communication based on not differences, but similarities of contacted cultures.
