The Study of Set Verbal Complexes in the German-Language Scientific Discourse
The article discusses German set verbal complexes of non-phraseological nature as important text-forming structural elements of the scientific and technical style. In modern phraseology studies the increased focus is placed on this particular language layer as a certain kind of a language microsystem in which structural and semantic features and patterns are traced. This fact makes it possible to compare and extrapolate the obtained data to different languages, so the system of set verbal non-phraseological complexes can be described in the most appropriate way. Among the German language studies carried out recently, there are few works that analyze set verbal complexes in a scientific and technical text and consider their major word-building models and semantization features, so the problem of investigating the ways of their formation and functioning is very relevant. The relevance of this study is also proved by the intricate relationship being traced between certain properties of language units and scientific and technical texts, due to what the properties of set verbal complexes functioning in German sci-tech texts are highlighted, the composition of these complexes is streamlined, the features of a sci-tech text being taken into account, and the role of these complexes in the text formation process and in the creation of the integrated scientific text space in view of its pragmatic orientation is examined. Theoretical significance of the study lies in describing and clarifying the sci-tech text properties and features associated with the specifics of the studied phrases. The results obtained in the study will determine the ways and means of selecting set verbal complexes, and establish relationships between them and the major parameters of the scientific and technical style. The practical value of the study lies in the fact that its findings can be used in the course of German for students of engineering specialties when teaching reading and the revealed structures can be used in the practice of annotating and abstracting German scientific and technical literature.
