The Hierarchy of Life Values in a Phraseological Space (on the Example of the English Language)
The article examines the English idioms that reflect life values and their hierarchy; cognitive, semantic, corpus analysis is carried out. The results of the study reveal the importance of such basic life values as life, freedom, love, happiness, self-realization. The analysis of the inner form and actual meaning of idioms showed that life is associated with breath, gaining experience, and the ability to earn a living is associated with the image to «have a clever mind». Freedom is expressed through the image of «free will». Love - «blindness, gratuity», human relationships focus on the value of trust. Happiness - «distance, journey», success - «show», «touch of happiness». Work is as an official activity, success, self-realization is a state of success, and life is a basic value on which all other values are based. In the work, a pyramid of life values was built, in the hierarchy of which the value of life and freedom is the foundation, on the second level there is love, happiness and on the third level is luck, self-realization. Conceptual metaphors were also highlighted inside the taxa: 'LIFE -SURVIVAL', 'LIFE - ACTION, MOVEMENT', 'FREEDOM - FLIGHT', 'LOVE -BLINDNESS, GRATUITY', 'HAPPINESS - TRAVEL, SPACE', 'LUCK - SURPRISE, ATTENTION'. These metaphors made it possible to combine idioms with different meanings into single conceptual groups. Corpus analysis revealed the combinatory features of idioms. Some idioms acquired additional meanings - the idiom live and breathe smth - «to be in the territory», spring to life - «to be born», as free as the air - «not to be in a relationship», as free as a bird - «to be unemployed». The idiom live and let live was used in contexts as an adjective - live and let live attitude. The idiom live beyond your means in contexts had a variant with the verb spend beyond one's means, the expression live within your means - variants buy, purchase. A semantic analysis of the English idioms showed that the actual meaning derives from the inner form and in contexts the inner form influences the conceptual environment of the idiom, the formation of additional meanings and their shades.
