Peculiarities of formation and translation of avia-environmental terminology from English into Russian

The article deals with problems of functioning of avia-environmental terminology in Modern English; common and specific features of avia-environmental terminology formation and basic means of its translation from English into Russian. Particular emphasis is put on different processes and means of term building, which determine their formation and functioning at the modern stage of language development. The purpose of this research is to investigate peculiarities of formation and translation of avia-environmental terminology from English into Russian. The multicomponent terms of the avia-environmental terminology are the object of this work. Certain regularities in professional English and Russian avia-environmental terminology are singled out. The analysis of modern English language shows that terms in professional vocabulary can be regarded as a proof of similarity in processes of word building and formation of word combinations in Modern English and Russian languages. Polysemantic terms and combinations are analyzed, the impact of technical progress on generating new terms and adding new meanings to the established terms are discussed, recommendations on translation strategies and choice of appropriate equivalents are given. The role of interdisciplinary links and integrated approach in providing correct translation of avia-environmental technology texts is highlighted. Certain regularities in building of terms borrowed from different into the professional environmental aviation terminology can be regarded as a proof of certain common regularities in the processes of word building and formation of word combinations in Modern English. The practical significance of research results provided an important basis for writing of the training manual and other teaching materials.
