Interaction of scientific and literary discourses in English metafiction
The object of the article is the study of discourse interaction in English metafiction of the second half of the XX century - the beginning of the XXI century at the mental and language level. The study focuses on the functioning of representatives of scientific discourse (terminological units, signs of artificial languages, precedent names of science, quotations from scientific texts) in literary texts. These units possess significant cognitive-expressive potential and, as a result, are widely used by authors of literary texts. Cognitive-expressive potential of these language units manifests itself in their ability to represent with the help of the minimum of language means complex mental structures with the center which in constituted by the scientific notion and peripheral zones connected with the center of the concept with the help of complex of associations. This concept accumulates the information belonging to the scientific picture of the world as well as other pictures of the world which is actualized by the use of the name of the concept in heterogeneous discoursive space of literary text. The procedure of analysis of heterogeneous discoursive space of literary text that includes the coherent use of conceptual analysis and discourse-analysis is theoretically substantiated. It has been proved that interpretation of information encoded by the author with the help of intertextual and interdiscoursive inclusions is determined by the reader's knowledge and experience and limited by essential characteristics of literary discourse that is viewed as environment in which signs of science language function. Interpretation is considered as a process and result of cognitive-creative activity, as the reader's ability to reconstruct fragments of the author's picture of the world. The article presents the results of conceptual analysis of mental structures actualized by representatives of scientific discourse in literary text. Special attention is paid to transformations of scientific cognitive structures functioning in discoursive space not characteristic of them. Originality of the research is determined by the fact that the representatives of scientific discourse include units of different levels of language of science such as terminological units and specifically neologisms created by authors of literary texts as well as wordbuilding and syntactic patterns characteristic of scientific speech. The author makes the conclusion about the role of interdiscoursive inclusions in English metafiction in processes of decoding the author's messages by the reader.
