Interrelations of languages and cultures and the role of culture in language teaching and learning
The evolution of scientific views on complex interrelations of languages and cultures is considered. The fallacy of science schools rejecting an important role culture plays in language communication is shown. The contribution of Russia's science in determining close, unbroken bonds of language and culture and inadmissibility of language teaching and learning on the basis of exclusively linguistic forms without due attention to cultural aspects of the target language is emphasized. In connection with the English language acquiring the status of the language of global communication, a need for language teaching paradigm change is pointed out, as the result of which it can no longer be taught as the foreign language with its cultural component of one of the national standards of English.
