Educational course of english and cultural identity of pre-school learners

One of the targets of the educational course of English for pre-school children in Russia is to introduce the culture of English speaking countries to the kids. What is sometimes overlooked in this process is cultural self-determination of children. Introduction to foreign ways of life has a great educational value. Pre-school learners benefit a lot from getting acquainted with toys and games of other nations and nationalities, learning to celebrate their holidays, participating in puppet shows with foreign characters, trying on ethnic costumes. However, a diverse cultural context makes it more complicated for a child to develop one's own cultural "self-concept". The article attempts to explore the issue of cultural identity of children in pre-school educational course of English. The results of the online survey of teachers from more than thirty Russian regions are analyzed.
