Translation in the mental spaces structure: the cognitive approach
The central problem of this article is the examining of the translation in the mental spaces structure of a person. A translator verbalizes the author's text and ideas during the process of translation. Thus he works over the content of someone else's mental spaces and reconstructs the cognitive images and ideas of the author's source text. In the best case a translator is the «co-author» of the target text in the new linguocultural environment. What is the cognitive basis of translation acts? Having analysed translation solutions and translation variants under consideration of their conceptual specialities, we can conclude that the integration of the author's and the translator's cognitive spheres ensures the translation. Key words: translation studies; conceptual spaces; the cognitive basis of translation; the psy-chotype of translator.
