Methodology issues of compiling a language personalitydictionary
In the article thebasic range of problems connected with compiling an idiolect dictionary is described andthe experience of solving them by Tomsk dialectologists, who have finished their work onThe Complete Dictionary of a Language Personality, is shared. The main problems of compiling a language personality dictionary are: 1) acquiringspeech material necessary and enough to adequately reflect the idiolect discourse. The taskof representation of all the language forms the person acquired, including the oralspontaneous speech, can be solved by using the method of including the speaker in thelanguage existence; 2) developing the concept of the dictionary. The optimal way to showthe diverse features of idiolexicon is compiling a basic explanatory dictionary of a nondifferentialtype in combination with several aspect dictionaries, complex multi-aspectparameterization of words and idioms; 3) speech material interpretation within the selectedconception. The authors of The Complete Dictionary…were guided by the followingprinciples: - maximally complete reflection of an idiolect. The given principle is realized ina multi-component structure of dictionary entries describing grammatical, phonetic, lexicalfeatures of the idiolect; in the sphere of lexicon semantic, functional, pragmaticalcharacteristics, system connections of units, their use as expressive means of the text, etc.are considered; - tendency to represent the speakers personality in the dictionary. It isrealized in the selection of illustrative materials telling about the speakers views, values, autobiographical data, and in the inclusion of precedent texts; - differentiation between truedata, proved by speech fixation, and reconstructed information, the latter being marked; -interpretation of discourse facts with account for common, specific and unique phenomena(the language system of the Russian language - the system of the Middle Ob old-timeinhabitants dialects, including the Vershininsky dialect, native for the informant -idiolect). Their analysis was supposed to rely on the systemic patterns of each componentof the triad, to find the Russian and dialectal features in the described material, to classifythe usual and the individual. TO solve these tasks the lexicographers used the data of theliterary language dictionaries, Middle Ob dialect dictionaries and The VershininskyDictionary, a dialect speakers text corpus, researches on the phenomenon of the Russianand dialect language personality, materials of dialectologists aural memory, and methodof introspection; - mild interpretation of peripheral phenomena with simultaneousclassification of complex cases into two possible groups. This principle was applied whendefining the lexical meanings of words with separate non-constant semes, when calculatingthe partially coinciding oblique forms that may represent variants of the head-word, incomplex cases when differentiating common and proper nouns, when making combinedmarks, etc.; - system, uniform (if possible) reflection of homogeneous or interconnectedlanguage phenomena. The lexicographers aimed at following the principle, but doing somay mean essential limitations, both subjective and objective.
