Historical-etymological dictionary of Russian dialects of Altai as a dialectal etymological dictionary
Regarding all the previous experience of creating etymological and historical-etymological Russian dictionaries new principles of creating the Historical-Etymological Dictionary of Altai Russian Dialects have been developed. According to this, they suggested an etymological interpretation of nearly 7000 dialect words beginning with A to O, which were detected on the territory of Altai region and Altai Republic and found their correspondence in other Russian dialects, widespread in other regions of the former Soviet Union. Also, historical information about the words is given (time of primary detection in the written language - ''entering the written usage''), Slavic language parallels are shown (which can help to find the lexical connection of the researched dialect with other dialects and to define the place of Altai Russian dialect in the the Slavic language space), all the versions of the word genesis are summarized (based on existing etymological sources), many etymological decisions are suggested. The urgency of the work is determined by its organic compatibility with such an actively developing part of Russian language studies as regional (dialect) etymological lexicography. Among the most significant projects in this sphere we can name the Etymological Dictionary of Northern-Russian Dialects by A.S. Gerd (St. Petersburg), the Dictionary of Finno-Ugric-Samodian Borrowings in Northern-Russian Dialects by A.K. Matveev (Yekaterinburg), the Thematic Etymological Dictionary of Northern-Western Russian Dialects by S.A. Myznikov (St. Petersburg). Finno-Ugric, Baltic and Turkic Borrowings by B.Ya. Sharifullin (Lesosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk region), the Etymological Dictionary of Siberian Russian Dialects: Borrowings from Ural, Altai, and Ancient Asian languages by A.Ye. Anikin (Novosibirsk). Russian dialects of such a Siberian region as Altai have never been subjected to such research before, and it determines the novelty of this project. Its complete realization (to the Я letter) can give us a possibility to reconstruct the language history of one of the most unique and linguistically unexplored regions of Siberia. The dictionary would be a valuable source for research in historical Russian language studies connected with Russian words history and genesis research.
