On the structural kinds and types of the monologue in W. Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark

The article describes the main structural kinds and types of the monologue in W. Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. The object of this research consists in the theoretical interpretation of the monologue according to the structural and semantic organization in the dramaturgic text. Monologues are subdivided into three main kinds according to their aim, communicative purpose, structural organization and relation to the informational content of the reported material. In this case the plot-directing, plot-intriguing and plot-summing up kinds of the monologue are meant. Each kind of the monologue has specific features. The plot-directing monologue is pronounced in the presence of like-minded persons and is never followed by their counteracting reaction; it is directed on performance of certain actions by the persons who are next to the speaker; it causes specifying questions turning into a dialogue or a polylogue and it is capable to open the further course of the plot. The plot-intriguing monologue is not connected with any of the characters who are present at the time of its pronouncing; it contains the further intrigue of the plot line; as a result, it must include all the characters of the play and present them in a compositional confrontation to the positive and negative evaluation of the action. The plot-summing up kind of the monologue is followed by author's notes; it emerges spontaneously; it is always limited in length; it sums up information speakers know but have not comprehended yet. The classification of monologues changes considerably according to the character of the stage speech. In this case one-line and expanded structural types of the monologue are meant. The one-line type is presented by the plot-intriguing monologue, and the expanded type includes plot-directing and plot-summing up types of the monologue. The one-line type of the monologue assumes bi-polarity of the developed circumstances. The speaker tries not only to comprehend his / her situation, but also to find the way out of an ambiguous situation. The expanded type of the monologue is univocal in its evaluation of a surrounding speech situation. Thus, it is necessary to emphasize that each of the considered structural kinds and types of the monologue depending on the aim of the statement, nature of connection with the stage speech and the communicative purpose of the reported facts has plot-intriguing, plot-directing and plot-summing up meaning.
