Author's intention in information television journalism: the experience of practical analysis

The article deals with the author in television journalism. A journalistic work is analyzed in terms of identifying the communicative intentions of the author. Application of the cognitive-functional approach reveals the author's intention and describes the strategy in genre, compositional and stylistic aspects of the scene. Specific examples help to consider the use of individual author's strategies in information journalism. The problem of the author is one of the key and most difficult issues for researchers of journalism. In our opinion, a promising way to study it is the cognitive-functional approach, in particular, intentional analysis used in media-linguistics. Understanding author's intentions and strategies, identifying the communicative pragmatics of a work determine the essential features of journalistic creativity. It is the purpose, the true intentions of the author, which are caused by a number of circumstances: creative (genre, composition, style) and pragmatic (production technology, montage, broadcasting schedule, rating, etc.). The author's intention is the task of creative activity of a certain character. The mode of action this intention defines, consciously chosen for the same kind of tasks, is called the author's strategy (i.e. the author's communicative strategy). This term, in fact, means the "narrative" strategy, how the author describes the sequence of events and interprets them, what grammatical and event categories in this case are the key ones. And, following this logic to the end, we may assume that when working on a specific journalistic product, the author uses certain tactics (speech, rhetoric, plot, etc.), which should also be analysed. The article shows it by specific examples of television messages. In all the journalistic work the task is to be the evidence, which leads to an obvious conclusion: the intention of an eyewitness is basic for this kind of journalistic activity. Obviously, it motivates the author's choice of the genre of the journalistic work (if it is not specified externally), its composition and storyline solution, its speech and other expressive means - the method and techniques of communication, its pragmatics. As for the author's strategies and tactics defined by the communicative purpose, their use is associated with the cognitive activity of the author, his attitude to the fact or phenomenon, which he describes (from detachment to empathy or irony). In addition, the author's choice of strategy can be affected by many external factors: political, social, technological, etc., which should also be considered when analysing the works.
