On the local historical conception of time in the city newspaper discourse of the late 20th - early 21st centuries (on the material of the newspaper Kuznetskiy rabochiy sections)
The aim of the article is to examine features of time conception in the city newspaper Kuznetskiy rabochiy (Novokuznetsk) through semantic and stylistic analysis. These features, typical for regional media discourse, are reflected in the newspaper section titles. Modern stylistics recognizes the category of time as one of the basic characteristics of texts with different genre and stylistic orientation. Semantic and stylistic analysis of temporality in a newspaper journalistic text allows to integrate methods of text stylistics, discourse analysis and axiological linguistics. The article examines features of local historical time conception, specific for regional media discourse and reflected in the system of sections, through semantic and stylistic analysis. City newspaper discourse is a particular kind of regional media discourse. Its semantic and stylistic specificity is determined by a complex of extralinguistic factors: historical, geographical, ethnic, economic, administrative-territorial. Linguistic and axiological specificity of regional media discourse is based on cooperation between two components of its axiosphere - supra-regional and regional ones. The regional component of the axiological world view reflected in regional media discourse is connected with its particular function: memorial and local historical. Implementation of this function is related to three communicative principles: close connection with newspaper’s own (local) addressee, focus on the region (on the city in the city newspaper), focus on local history. It is necessary to emphasize two most important features of time conception reflected by sections of the city newspaper Kuznetskiy rabochiy. Firstly, according to the principle of focus on the city, time axis in the city newspaper correlates not so much with events of the global or national scale, as with local history, with the present and future of the city. It is especially obvious in the materials published since the second half of the 1980s. Secondly, in comparison with the general purpose of newspapers -to reflect the historical “today”, - the city newspaper discourse pays more attention to the events of the past. It can be explained by the memorial and local historical function, specific for the regional media discourse axiosphere. After perestroika, sections of the city newspaper Kuznetskiy rabochiy continue and develop traditions founded in the edition during the first half of 1980s. Newspaper sections embody two main directions of the city’s fate and its unique local flavor comprehension: history of the city and history of the family. Lexical representatives of temporal semantics used in section titles, as well as semantic and stylistic features of texts represented in those sections, are connected with the memorial and local historical function which influences the conception of time in the city newspaper discourse and determines the linguistic and axiological specificity of regional media discourse.
