About Paradigmatic Intertextuality in Marina Tsvetaeva's Poem The Girl Death
The article is devoted to the study of the paradigmatic connections of Marina Tsvetaeva's early poetry with the German poetic tradition of the second half of the 18th century, which is based on a comparative intertextual analysis of Tsvetaeva's “The Girl Death” and J.W. von Goethe's “The Fisherman”. The analysis uses both other works of German poetry and Tsvetaeva's texts to create the necessary context. The study is based on the concepts of syntagmatic and paradigmatic intertextuality, which have their roots in the theories of Manfred Pfister and Wolf-Dieter Krause and define the methodology of an intertextual analysis of poetic text. This methodology involves the identification of deep structures that link the source text with prototexts and with previous literary eras. The basis and the first stage of the study is a comparative analysis of the text and the prototext, which allows to determine their similarity by the parameters of the genre, structure, composition, size, plot, themes and motives, and, consequently, draw conclusions about the intensity of the dialogue between these texts. In parallel with the comparative analysis, there can be a reconstruction of the necessary biographical context for understanding the role of specific writers and poets, literary movements in the formation of their own poetic “I”. Then, on this basis, a relationship is built with the texts of the author, with the literary era and tradition. It is important to emphasise that this is a holistic analysis, not reducible to any single of its stages or elements. The analysis of Tsvetaeva's poem “The Girl Death” based on the concept of paradigmatic intertextuality, taking into account the peculiarities of the ballad, the compositional construction of texts, the poetic size, comparison of the components / elements of the plot, the nature of the text's style, allows not only to reveal a substantial paradigmatic similarity of the texts but also to trace the paradigmatic connection of Tsvetaeva's poem with Goethe's lyrics in particular and German literary tradition of the second half of the 18th century as a whole. The poem by Marina Tsvetaeva is a very interesting example of a poetic text, which is a deep and intensive dialogue between literatures and cultures, creating intercultural polyphony, crossing the temporal and literary boundaries, due to which the poem becomes part of a single text of world literature.
