Book Review: Kuleva, A.S. (2017) Istoriya Usechennykh Prilagatel'nykh v Yazyke Russkoy Poezii [The History of Clipped Adjectives in the Language of Russian Poetry]. Moscow; St. Petersburg: Nestor-Istoriya
Clipped adjectives have traditionally been regarded as a feature of the 18th-century poetry, but the collected material (more than 30 000 poetic texts by 500 authors of the 17th -early 21st centuries) shows that this grammatical archaism has been used in Russian poetry throughout its history, and is also found at the modern stage. The book describes the origin and functioning of clipped adjectives and offers a fresh look at the evolution of poetic language. The book can be of use not only to linguists, but also to literary scholars, as well as to those interested in Russian poetry.
