Mikhail Lermontov's poetry in the mirror of Kyrgyz literature: Analysis of translations by Omor Sultanov
A study of literary translations of Mikhail Lermontov's poetry into the Kyrgyz language, authored by the People's Poet of the Kyrgyz Republic Omor Sultanov, was conducted. The materials for the research were poems by Lermontov and their translations into Kyrgyz made by Sultanov. A line-by-line comparative analysis of the original poems of the Russian poet and translations of his poetry into Kyrgyz was made. This approach allowed evaluating the quality of literary translation in more detail and analyzing all the nuances of this complex process. The aim of the study is to determine the originality of Lermontov's poetry and its translations in the sociocultural context of the interaction of two languages: Russian and Kyrgyz. The relevance and novelty of the research is manifested in the identification of ideological criteria in the interpretation of Lermontov's poetry for Kyrgyz-speaking readers. The subject of the study is the sociocultural and linguistic characteristics of Kyrgyz translations of Lermontov's poetry. The study assesses the degree of equivalence, freedom and adequacy of the considered poetic translations in relation to the originals, and correlates the imagery of the originals and Kyrgyz translations of Lermontov's poetry. The main method of the research is comparative analysis. The study revealed the distinctive features of literary translations of Lermontov's poems into Kyrgyz, their dependence on the socio-cultural background and the traditional value system of the Kyrgyz people; identified semantic and stylistic features of the transition of Lermontov's poetry from the Russian language to Kyrgyz. The analysis showed the presence of both equivalent and free translations of Lermontov's lyrics made by Sultanov. It can be concluded that each of these translated poetic texts is timely and adequate, the line-by-line analysis of poems helps to focus on detailing all the translation nuances. Psychological and personal factors relating to the author and the translator play an important role - the translator conveys the poet's ideas through the prism of his own experience. Despite the fact that Russian and Kyrgyz are not related to each other, they have a common Soviet past, which means that the cultural layer of the Russian language is well known to the Kyrgyz audience. This circumstance poses an important task for the translator - taking into account the fact that bilingual Kyrgyz readers are often fluent in both Kyrgyz and Russian, and can refer to Lermontov's poetry in the original, being well acquainted with his works, it is necessary to convey Lermontov's lyrics in translation to the Kyrgyz reader accurately and correctly. It can be concluded that Sultanov's literary translations have passed all the listed selection criteria and can claim a high assessment of the quality of translations of Lermontov's poetry into the Kyrgyz language. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
