TREASURY OF THE ANCIENT SURGICAL TOOL (To the 150-th anniversary of Surgical Museum of Military-Medical Academy)
Among the unique collections of medical rarities in collections of cathedral museums of Military-medical academy named S.M. Kirov occupies a place of prominence collection of antique surgical instruments stored in the museum department of operative surgery (with topographic anatomy). This is the only one of the most completely preserved collections of the once famous museum of imperial surgical Medical-surgical academy, founded February 9, 1863 (old style). Almost 150 years (since the founding chair in 1865), the existence of «armory» academy is inextricably linked with the activities of the department of Pirogov dual academic discipline (operative surgery and topographic anatomy), whose main goal is to teach the fundamentals of surgical technique and the study of the anatomy of the wound in different anatomical regions. It is no exaggeration to say that for 150 year, thanks to selfless work of enthusiastic professors at the academy, scientists created and stored the largest collection of special and general surgical instruments, illustrating the technique of almost all known surgical approaches and techniques that have been used in a pre-aseptic era, and in the period of the emergence of new trends in surgery, including minimally invasive technology.
