SINGLE-STAGE RECONSTRUCTION OF SOFT-TISSUE DEFECTS OF FINGERS BY LOCAL MESH ISLAND FLAPS

The treatment of 17 patients with deep limited finger defects, primary damage or exposure of deep anatomical structures has been analyzed. Two methods of formation of island flaps for plastic and closure of defects were applied: homodigital flap with a reversible vascular pedicle in 9 cases (53%) and heterodigital flap with antegrade blood flow in 8 cases (47%). In all the cases, the problem of wound closure was solved with a good functional and aesthetic result. By the scale of “Assessment of the level of everyday living and life quality of patients” six months after the treatment, the index was from 23 to 27, which is reliably the same as in healthy humans. The single-stage reconstruction of soft-tissue finger defects by mesh island flaps made at the early stage favors an increase in the efficiency of surgical treatment, since it provides the restoration of the cover maximally close to the lost cover, revascularization of damaged anatomical structures, and hand function recovery.
