Influence of Organizational Identification on the Relationship Between Work Engagement and Organizational Citizenship Behavior of Vietnamese Higher Education Teachers

The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of organizational identification on the relationship between work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior of higher education teachers in Vietnam. Using a specially developed methodology, the authors surveyed 648 higher education teachers in three cities in Vietnam: Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. The SPSS version 22.0 program, descriptive statistical and inferential statistical methods of analysis, and the Hayes Process Macro version 4.2 program were used to process the obtained data. The study revealed positive relationships between work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior; between work engagement and organizational identification; between organizational citizenship behavior and organizational identification. And also the influence of work engagement on the components of organizational citizenship behavior mediated by organizational identification, such as: orientation toward the development of the educational organization, orientation towards compliance with norms and rules, orientation towards students, orientation towards colleagues. The results expand the understanding of how work engagement contributes to organizational citizenship behavior of teachers in an educational organization. In addition, they emphasize the importance of forming a sense of organizational identity as a factor influencing the relationship between work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior. The application of the findings can ensure an increase in the effectiveness of both teachers and educational institutions. As Vietnamese educational institutions embark on the path of autonomy and internationalization, the ability of management to engage teachers in their work will be necessary to create a positive, collaborative and innovative learning environment. Managers should recognize and properly value the contribution of teachers to their work, and ensure fair human resource policies that aim to create conditions for employees to contribute to the development and prosperity of the educational organization. Providing an open space for communication where teachers can share opinions, propose ideas and receive constructive feedback is also an important factor in increasing organizational trust.
