Modern family in aspect of psychology of health of the personality: problems of development and possibilities of prevention

Problems of functioning of the family at modern stage of development of the society under complex social-demographic, psychological, ecological and changing conditions of the environment determine the relevance of development of complex approach to solution of mental health problems of all family members. The family as a primary social group where formation of the personality of the individual and his/her attitude toward the surrounding world and as a source of genetic heredity, has close relationship with arising in him/her illnesses and their course. Complex investigations of the family are perspective for study of basic social-psychological, clinical-dynamic, adaptive and other factors in mental disorders of childhood-adolescence, mature adulthood and elder age. Systemic approach allows continuing the development of scientific images in the domain of preventive psychiatry. This report is devoted to consideration of social-psychological factors determining trends of development of the modern family; novel data about family systems observed in modern society have been presented; alternative models of family with transformation of family functions, roles and functioning are described; deviations of family systems being a basic predictor of onset and development of multifactorial deviations of psychological and mental health of family members as well as resources of psychology in complex with medical and genetic programs have been designated. Psychological (personality and family), genealogical, and scientific-organizing aspects of complex investigations of mental health of the family as a system are discussed, special attention has been paid to presence of family (hereditary) history (mental, somatic) among relatives; definition of ontogenetic circle of fam-ilywith several generations and family-genetic crisis, multi-level model of functioning of the family is given. Results of clinical-genetic-epidemiological, social-psychological investigations of families of mentally healthy children and adolescents of general schools and boarding schools, children, adolescents and adults with endogenous, non-psychotic and affective mental disorders are introduced. Personality-psychological, motivational characteristics, reproductive attitudes of parents having a child with psychological-psychiatric problems are described. Data about the process of family-genetic prevention of mental disorders and genetic-psychological counseling of the family is introduced. Family-genetic prevention is a totality of various kinds of the activity and represents a communicative process in the network of interactions between all participants and acting factors. Ongoing functional model of Center of Family-Genetic Prevention and Adaptation "Mental Health of Family" based on FSBI "Mental Health Research Institute" SB RAMSci is described.
