Correlation between high school students' personal potential and specifics of their perception of environment of their self-realization
The article presents the results of the research of the problem of high school students' perception of environment of their self-realization. A city (urban environment, city conditions) was chosen as the environment for self-realization. The personal potential of young people acts as a resource for self-realization, and the implementation of definite strategies of self-realization by young men and girls depend on how this resource is consciously recognized and fulfilled. In addition, typical for young people personal features act as lenses through which they look at the world around them and assess the conditions in which they live, including the conditions of the city. It turns out that young men and girls with different personal features will assess differently the socio-cultural conditions of the city from the point of view of opportunities for self-realization. Thus, basic values and the way they can be implemented in the city act as the assessment criteria of the urban environment. This assumption was tested in a pilot study. Senior students, graduates and postgraduate students studying a degree in Humanities and living in Tomsk and Lesosibirsk (Krasnoyarsk region) participated in it. These cities were chosen because the current socio-cultural conditions in them differ significantly from each other. Using the method of cluster analysis we defined two clusters both in Lesosibirsk and in Tomsk selection. Examinees from cluster 1 in both selections have negative assessment of city conditions; these young people do not perceive the city as a suitable place for personal and professional development. These young men and women have low rates of personal potential, low tendency to self-organization activities and self-determination. However, in cluster 1 in the selection of Lesosibirsk negative estimation of an urban environment is also relevant to young people who are ambitious, persistent and aspire to live by the principle "here and now". Personal features, which young men and girls from a cluster 1 in both selections have, allow us to refer them to those who entered the faculty of Humanities but are not truly humanitarian oriented. On the contrary, examinees from cluster 2 in both selections are positive about the city conditions. Still they differ by high indicators of personal potential (the tendency to self-organization, the tendency to self-determination, systematic reflection, career orientation to service, career orientation to business). Young people from cluster 2 in the selection of Lesosibirsk are more focused on business, but they are less endowed with a tendency to self-organization and systematic reflection. These personal features are revealed better among young people from cluster 2 in the selection of Tomsk. They are also characterized by the predominance of career orientation to service to others. Personal characteristics of young people from cluster 2 in Lesosibirsk and in Tomsk selections allow to define them as possessing a true humanitarian orientation.
