Paradoxical intention in logoand cognitive-behavioral therapy (eclecticism and the integration of psychotherapy and psychological supervision)

The article affected quite up-to-date, both in theoretical and practical terms, the issue of relations between different directions in psychotherapy and psychological supervision (psycho-supervision), the issue of the necessity and possibility of integrating them in the interests of the client and patient. Arkowitz, Norcross and Newman believe that there are three ways to the integration in psychotherapy: a methodological eclecticism, theoretical integration and common factors. These authors, thus, allow the existence of theoretical integration also. A. Lazarus the creator of a short-term multi-modal psychotherapy refers to the possibility of theoretical integration not only with suspicion, but also "with contempt". Considering that Lazarus is not completely right, the authors of the article present the opinion F. Frankl - the founder of logotherapy, who believed that the methods he created such as "paradoxical intention" and "dereflection" are successfully applied in work with patients with neurosis of fear and obsessions and they were thoroughly experimentally tested in behavioral therapy. The authors stand their ground that the integration in psychotherapy is possible in varying degrees and at three levels, which is in the interest of a client and a patient.
