The question of defensive and coping students' behavior safety in the educational environment
The article is devoted to the question of safety and unsafety of a person's defensive and coping behavior in the educational environment. We assume that one's behavior, aimed at overcoming the threats and reducing stress levels may not always be positive and constructive for himself and people around him. To keep going in the optimal way and to develop one has to overcome difficulties, stresses and other situations. In this regard people use mechanisms of psychological defense and strategies of coping behavior. These mechanisms and strategies daily function in the life of any person, but the result of their activation does not always have positive, constructive consequences, both for the individual and for the people around him. The aim of the study was to determine the safe and unsafe types of defensive and coping behavior of students. The ides of the study is that students' defensive and coping behavior can be both safe and unsafe for them and for their social environment. The study involved 332 college and university students from the first to the fourth years of study (from 16 to 22 years old) from Ekaterinburg. Were used diagnostic methods such as the method of diagnostics parameters and forms of aggression by A. Buss, A. Durkee; the questionnaire "Diagnosis of interpersonal relations" by T. Leary; the questionnaire "Social and psychological adaptation" by C. Rogers and R. Dymond; the method of measuring the level of Machiavellianism personality by R. Christie and F. Geis; the method of "tendency to victim behavior" by O.O. Andronnikova; the test questionnaire of locus control by J. Rotter; the self-test questionnaire by V.V. Stolin, S.R. Konte; the questionnaire "Strategies for overcoming stressful situations" by S. Hobfoll; the questionnaire "Dealing with difficult life situations" by W. Janke and G. Erdmann. We performed mathematical and statistical data processing using IBM SPSS Statistics 19. As a result of the study we identified four types of defensive and coping behavior: adaptive, victim, neurotic, and altruistic. All types of protective and coping behavior were divided into two grounds: safe or unsafe, directed at oneself or at others. "Adaptive" and "altruistic" types of behavior attribute to safe defensive and coping behavior and "neurotic" and "victim" types attribute to unsafe.
