Psychological support in formation of professional identity among police officers at the initial stage of training

This article presents the results of the development project of psychological and educational support in the process of formation of professional identity (in an example of police officers at the initial stage of their training when they experience adaptation to new conditions of reality). Willingness and the ability to reflect on their own life in the context of selfdevelopment and self-fulfillment are considered as the identity formation mechanism. An important task of psychological support in the identity formation process among young police officers at initial stage of their training is to maintain a unified context of their own lives. Such support should be focused on the psychological adjustment of meaning fixations and on the development of new psychological formations, which complete the identified deficits in the structure of different types of staff identity. The series of reflexive trainings is one of the ways to develop a conscious desire to concentrate a person’s attention on the process and the results of their own mental activity. The reflective skills in relation to their personal life and professional activity were manifested in 79% of participants. This shows that this category of employees tends to meaningful analysis of their actions and deeds. Self-analysis and the analysis of their own personality characteristics, including understanding their strengths and weaknesses, minimize the existing negative attitudes which prevent the development of various aspects of personality leading to effective and productive life. The analysis of their own mental activity during the training exercises allowed the officers to think not only about their future professional career but also about their life as a whole.
