The “Stagnation or Path” Methodology and Its Validation
The paper analyzes achievements in the field of volitional regulation in German psychology. One of the modern trends in this field, headed by J. Kuhl and other researchers in Germany, is studied in detail. Considering the behavior of different types of people ("victims" and "winners") in a situation of failure. Revealed the reasons for the different behavior of the two types of people. A critical analysis of the proposed theory of volitional regulation was carried out. Based on this, a refined and supplemented model of volitional regulation was introduced. This model, unlike the foreign one, provides a detailed description of human behavior not only in a situation of failure, but also in the case of success, which is important for understanding the role of volitional regulation at the time of emotional excesses. The idea of creating an express test for empirical research was implemented by developing a new tool for assessing a person's volitional activity associated with the analysis of the person’s behavior in a situation of failure and success. Its psychometric justification, including validation, was carried out. The following methods were used for this purpose: 1) the self-control method of Y. Kuhl and A. Furman; 2) the Russian version of the questionnaire of Y. Kuhl "Action Control Scale (NAKEMR - 90)"; 3) the scale of the direction of motivation when making an error, due to K. Shell (EOMS); 4) S.Maddi’s hardiness test. The study involved 100 people ages 20 to 50, males and females. Based on the obtained correlations and their analysis, the construct validity of the test and the possibility of its subsequent use were confirmed. Standardization of the methodology is included, where a unit of measurement and assessment of values was chosen. A detailed interpretation of the research results is presented, which includes an assessment of a person’s behavior in a situation of failure and success, as well as a general assessment that provides an answer to the question of what is currently happening in the person's life - whether they are in stagnation or on the way to achieving their goals. It is assumed that the method will be used in the field of consulting practice and scientific research.
