THE COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPTS OF DEVELOPMENT IN WORKS OF VYGOTSKY AND PIAGET: A NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH

This paper purports to lay grounds for the much needed basic neuropsychological developmental theory through critical integration of the cognitive development theories of L.S. Vygotsky and J. Piaget. Critical differences and unifying moments are reviewed and analyzed in light of current research in developmental neurosciences, developmental psychology, clinical and cognitive neuropsychology. The critical analysis is carried out along three axes: 1) development as biological and cultural-historical, 2) development as discrete and continuous, 3) development as normal and pathological.
