On the history of medicine in Transcarpathia from the Middle Ages to 1945: A history of surgery (Report 1)
This article examines the development of surgery in Transcarpathia from its origins to the mid-20th century. It analyzes the provision of surgical care in key population centers, including Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, and Khust, as well as among rural population. The research identifies the earliest organized surgical care with the activities of the Templar monks in the early 13th century. The authors conclude that the region's surgical services evolved in line with European medicine, beginning with monastic and guild-based structures and culminating in state institutions staffed by mid-level medical personnel and qualified university-educated surgeons.
