Massacre of Przemysl 15.09.1914 and its reflection in the periodical
The massacre of Przemysl which took place on September 15th, 1914, claimed 44 lives. It was a part of the campaign of terror against real or potential Russophiles in Galicia and Bukovina, launched by the government of Austro-Hungary. The majority of the victims of the massacre were peasants from neighboring villages, arrested as «Russophiles». It worth noting, that there were no formal accusation laid against them. Austrian military authority of Przemysl didn't take actions to do justice to the slaughterers. The massacre long remained in the memory of local inhabitants and received much coverage in media of post-war period, mainly in Russophile periodicals, as a part of commemoration in the memory of the victims of Austro-Hungarian repressions. Some writings were dedicated to it. However, the event was largely forgotten with the whole Russophile tradition of Galicia after the incorporation of Galicia into USSR in 1939.
