The Beginning of Rus’ according to Germanic Sources (for scholarly problematic clarification)

Medieval Germanic sources, including genealogy evidence, allow for the widening and specifying of the problematic study of the beginning period of Russian history. The introduction of them into scholarly circulation allows for other ways of looking at the question of the origin of Old Rus' statehood in the context of «Calling Upon the Vikings» and the «Origin of Prince Rurik». The attempt to come out on a new level of research with regard to the Russo-Viking question is undertaken in the article. A brief outline of perspective directions for further research is also attempted.
