The Peace of Bukharest in the History of the Moldavian People: Annexation or Liberation?

The joining of Bessarabia to Russia was not an act of annexation, although the complex international circumstances did not allow for the liberating of all of Moldavia from the Turkish yoke - its territroy beyond the Pruth still remained in the Ottoman Empire. Finally the rest of Moldavia was liberated from the Turks with the help of Russia in the second half of the 19thC. But for the people of Bessarabia the three-century long period of domination by cruel Oriental despotism had ended in 1812. Wide perspectives for a relatively quick social evolution began for the formation of a bourgeoise society, for cultural and socio-political progress. In history, are there other such examples which were so beneficial to a people of «Annexation»?
