Magazine "Slavic century" on the situation of the ruthenians of Galicia in the late XIX - early XX centuries

Nowadays a tragedy of Rusins (Rusyns, Ruthenians) in Galicia due to the crisis in Ukraine attracted the attention of historians. They discover new sources on the history of Rusins. The magazine "Slavic Century" is a little-known historical source for the history of the Galician Rusins. It's published in Vienna from 1900 till 1905. Slavic group of intellectuals headed by poet and essayist D.N. Vergunov. The editors covered the life of the Slavs, which accounted for 60 % of the population of the empire. In the 92 issues of the magazine from the 1 July 1900 until December 1904 the problems of the Rusinian population specifically mentioned 103 times in 76 issues of the magazine, in particular the Rusins of Galicia - 68 times. Materials of the journal suggests that the loss of Russian in Galicia their ethnic identity is the result of a deliberate policy of the authorities of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Polish and Ukrainian nationalists. The situation in a modern Ukraine is also not a random phenomenon, but the action prepares a half-century Austrian, Polish, German, American authorities. Magazine "Slavic Century" - a valuable source on the history of the Ruthenian people and the history of Ukrainian identity.
