Subcarpathian Rus' in the foreign policy of Poland and Czechoslovakia (1932-1935)
The article reveals the understudied aspects of Polish-Czechoslovak relations with Subcarpathian Rus in 1932-1935 with the help of the draft of the The Four-Power Pact of the Locarno policy of "pushing Germany to the East". The author provides a brief historiographical essay on the role of Subcarpathian Rus' in the international relations during the interwar period, with the focus on the reports of the Polish military attache and envoy in Prague in the context of Transcarpathian problems. Particular attention is paid to the visit of Minister E. Benes to Transcarpathia in the spring of 1934, held in parallel with the visit of his Polish counterpart J. Beck to Bucharest, which had a secret goal to destroy the Little Entente. The author discusses the unknown reports of the spring of 1935 by the Czechoslovak envoy V. Ghirsa and the Austrian envoy Marek concerning the Polish-German “Eastern plans” and the involvement of Hungary regarding Sub-Carpathian Rus in order to establish a common Polish-Hungarian border.
