St. Nicetas of Remesiana: a pastor and a politician

The author represents a review of the book by the Romanian researcher Alina Soroceanu Niceta von Remesiana.Seelsoge undKirchenpolitikimspatantiken unteren Donauraum (St. Nicetas of Remesiana. Spiritual Care and Church Policy in the Late Antique Lower Danube). The work represents a comprehensive study of the life and activities of the Apostle of the Balkans St. Nicetas of Remesiana in the historical and cultural context of his era. The author examines the source and historiographical basis of the work as well the archaeological material, the political aspect of the problem and the role of St. Nicetas of Remesiana as of a possible mediator between Constantinople and Rome. The reviewer points at the debatable nature of certain constructions associated with the missionary journey of St. Nicetas of Remesiana and insists on the identification of Urbem Tomitanam in the seventeenth poem of Pauline of Nola with Tomy (modern Constanta).
